Terrence West

Terrence Laverne West (born 1974 - died August 3, 2006) was the girl's basketball coach at Woodlawn High School.

West was a graduate of Huffman High School and Miles College, playing on both basketball teams. He was employed as a substitute teacher and coach with Birmingham City Schools since 1998. In 2004 he coached the boy's team at Woodlawn, taking them to the regional finals. He then moved to John Carroll High School as an assistant under Marty Smith for a year before returning to Woodlawn to take over the girl's team. He also held a free basketball clinic at the school and coached the Birmingham Raptors youth basketball team.

On the morning of August 3, 2006 he was found dead from a gunshot wound to the chest in the passenger seat of a car on the 2200 block of Slayden Avenue in Ensley. The crime was the 67th in the List of Birmingham homicides in 2006.

West is survived by his mother and father, and two sons, age 9 and 13.
