The U.S. 31 Express is a bus route serviced by the Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority from Birmingham Central Station to Vestavia Hills and the Riverchase Galleria in Hoover. The route was initiated in 2002 under a federal grant.

Major stops along the outbound route include the Central Station, 20th Street at 6th Avenue South, Vestavia Hills City Center, Hoover Court and the Galleria.

Major inbound stops include the Lorna Town Square, Old Towne Plaza, the McDonald's on Highway 31 in Vestavia Hills, 20th Street at 6th Avenue South, and the Central Station.

Weekday service is provided between 6:00 AM and 9:00 PM at 90 minute intervals with additional runs in the morning and afternoon. The last outbound bus departs Birmingham at 9:00 PM, but does not carry passengers on its return trip. The last inbound bus departs the Galleria at 8:14 PM. Saturday service begins at 6:00 AM with the last outbound run beginning at 7:30 PM and returning at 9:00 PM.

In 2009 the city of Hoover proposed holding its contribution to the BJCTA at $50,000 rather than meeting the agency's request of $119,155 to continue servicing the route. BJCTA is holding hearings to present options for reduced service if the allocation does not increase.
