Union Bethel Christian Church is located at 1912 14th Street Southwest in the Mason City neighborhood of Birmingham.

The church was founded in 1932 by W. D. Hargrove, and was originally named Union Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, an affiliate of the 9th Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. It was located at 1300 6th Avenue South.

While at this location, the congregation left the AME Church and changed its name to Union Bethel Independent Methodist Church. It adopted its present name under pastor Kenneth Robinson in 2004.

The congregation commissioned a sculpture of Hargrove from Georges Bridges.

Because of its participation in the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights the congregation was recognized as a "movement church" by the Birmingham Historical Society.
