Popups script

Hi, D, is it possible to set up popups like those at Wikipedia? I've gotten spoiled by them and would like to be able to use them on Bhamwiki. -- Rob 18:15, 14 July 2007 (PDT)

1964 Barons

  • FYI: Although a farm team for the Kansas City A's, they were the Birmingham Barons in 64 & 65. Finley transferred the franchise to Mobile for the 66 season, and moved them back to B'ham in 67 with one of the conditions being that the team change it's name to the Athletics. (Good Wood: A fan's history of Rickwood Field by Ben Cook, pp. 88-95; see also www.birminghamprosports.com) -fats 21:39, 7 August 2007 (PDT)
  • Thanks. I caught the error in mid-editing. Should be all fixed now. --Dystopos

Larry McReynolds

  • Thanks for the executive decision; I couldn't bring myself to cut them out when I brought the article over. --Wheresdib 17:07, 10 September 2007 (PDT)
  • I made a more verbose case at Talk:Larry McReynolds on Wikipedia. If someone comes through with a better explanation for why McReynoldisms might be notable, we can revisit the issue. Changes should show up on my WP watchlist. --Dystopos 17:25, 10 September 2007 (PDT)
  • I agree with you though, I was really torn as to whether or not to include them, so they can stay away at BhamWiki. I'm more concerned with what part of town he grew up in, what High School he went to, etc. I could care less about his repeated phrases during a sportscast. --Wheresdib 17:48, 10 September 2007 (PDT)

Using a photo in Wikipedia Commons

I uploaded commons:Image:Ullman-hall.jpg to Wikipedia Commons and am wondering how/whether I can link to it for the Ullman High School article. I couldn't make it work as a thumbnail. Do I have to upload to to BhamWiki? -- Rob 14:20, 12 October 2007 (PDT)

Morris Newfield

  • Like what you did on Morris Newfield, I still have a small problem at the bottom where I refer to his brother's page on Wikipedia. Punctuation seems to be stuck in the middle.--MacroAlan 21:27, 14 October 2007 (PDT)
    • I think you're referring to the "" which indicates an external link. That's standard for the software. --Dystopos 21:38, 14 October 2007 (PDT)

Magic hat

  • I am waiting on Scott Stantis to "Bullwinkle" LL and have him pull some proposals from his Magic hat. Your comment on al.com made me spew the Dew all over my monitor. --Wheresdib 14:32, 29 January 2008 (PST)

On Houstons

Many thanks for coming up with Clyde. Its been maybe 24 years since I darted that door but I remember it fondly especially when it rained really hard and you sometimes got wet LOL. Artsojourner 16:19, 19 February 2008 (PST)

On AAM

Thank you so much for helping get the Alabama Art Monthly article together. Paul was so great to work with. I guess if anyone remembered all the goings-on at the magazine it would be Paul. Kudo's to him also as I already added to his user page. Sweet! Artsojourner 22:37, 26 February 2008 (PST)
By the way, Paul knows a lot about artists in Birmingham maybe even some that are not listed in List of artists here on bhamwiki Artsojourner 22:41, 26 February 2008 (PST)

LOL You are too much

I am just doing a Dan Bynum article. lol Artsojourner 20:30, 9 March 2008 (PDT)

Dan is one of my favorite artists in Birmingham. It is hard not to want to elaborate but I do understand it has to hold up to Bhamwiki standards. Very interesting that we are on the same page on this though Hmmm Bynum's articles seems meant to be tonight. No worries about hurting my feelings you haven't and you didn't. Artsojourner 20:57, 9 March 2008 (PDT)

Thomas Hardy

  • Always a crowd favourite. --Dystopos 12:29, 11 March 2008 (PDT)

"Wikipedia" support

Thanks for the info on the wikipedia template info. I'll massage the article as I wrote it for Wikipedia before posting it here. Joseph Blake 07:30, 28 March 2008 (PDT)

On your Homicide updates

Thank you. I certainly commend you on the information you put on Bhamwiki about the homicides in the Birmingham area. I always look. Just to keep up with what is going on in Birmingham even though I no longer live there I still feel invested. Artsojourner 19:36, 2 April 2008 (PDT)

I am in no way surprised to know that the Birmingham Police Department keeps up with this list. This is awesome information that may develop into understandable patterns after a while that the police department can use in a forensic kind of way. Artsojourner 22:21, 2 April 2008 (PDT)

On LaDonna

Thanks for all the help this article. I was going to tackle it a little later but it seems you have it shaped up very well. Last time she was here in NYC she stayed with us and we went to Chinatown to buy percussion instruments so she could let the children play them at B'hams salute to Japan. Awesome lady. I wish I could find where she got to play for the princess of Japan Maybe if I dig deep it will come up on google. Thanks again. Artsojourner 19:29, 6 April 2008 (PDT)

BBB

I just read about the Birmingham Mural Project and wanted you to know that I designed the "Birmingham Beautification Board" logo with the 3 B's wrapped around the Magnolia leaves while still a student at Birmingham Southern and UAB. They offered to pay me a nickel for everytime they used it but I just let them have it. Many of my friends thought I should have charged but they would not have used it if they had to pay for it so its out there now I haven't been back to B'ham in a while but I do remember seeing one in 2006. They are usually on the side of the green garbage cans there. Ha! Just a blast from the past that I had completely forgotten about. Thanks for helping me remember Artsojourner 22:10, 13 April 2008 (PDT)

David Neal

You scooped me. --Dystopos 14:53, 12 May 2008 (PDT)

  • You haven't been around much today, saw it post on al.com, and knew that we still said he was employed. Keepin' up with the times... :) --Wheresdib 14:59, 12 May 2008 (PDT)

Touche - you scooped me on Brandee Skinner! --Wheresdib 14:45, 14 May 2008 (PDT)

23rd Ave NW

Oops... I guess now I know how to force you to write an article? --Wheresdib 07:41, 16 May 2008 (PDT)

Address

The address you found is a small apartment complex next to the Vestavia Post Office and is the same as the one I found from the State Dept. listing. --Dystopos 09:03, 19 May 2008 (PDT)

  • Oops. When you said "residence," it was "house" that came to my mind, not apartment. So when I saw the address right off a major highway, adjacent to retail, and not a house, I made a bad assumption. If I'd looked closer, the lack of parking lot space should have tipped me off. Sorry. (Explains why you'd "missed" it.) --Lkseitz 10:14, 19 May 2008 (PDT)

Movie Gallery

Agnes

I was wondering if you would do me the favor of adding the AGNES logo you have on here (Bhamwiki) to Wikipedia. It would be most appreciated Artsojourner 12:00, 18 December 2008 (PST)

  • I'm exhausted at the mere thought of trying to document everything WP wants for a fair use image. Maybe I'll find the energy after I get over this cold. --Dystopos 12:06, 18 December 2008 (PST)

Council seats

My statement about the Irondale council is purely assumption. We were pretty specific about who represented the 7 districts in the previous incarnation of the Irondale article, and their current website is pretty specific about the five current districts. I'd like to find out when and how they made the change and put it in an Irondale City Council article. --Dystopos 15:49, 3 March 2009 (PST)

Farley Building

Hades Valley

  • Pretty bold assumption that I meant "Shades Valley". --Dystopos 08:35, 20 May 2009 (PDT)
    • I've always presumed Wikipedia's "be bold" motto applied here as well. :-) BTW, Summe says Shades Valley opened in 1949. --Lkseitz 07:35, 22 May 2009 (PDT)

Lucille Douglass

John, how do I completely get rid of an entry? I added to the Lucille Douglas entry before realizing that the name was misspelled on the list of Birmingham painters. I made the correction to Lucille Douglass, but Lucille Douglas still comes up in a search. How do I axe Lucille Douglas? -- User:Graham Boettcher 16:44, 11 June 2009 (PDT)

  • I'm the only one with the axe of deletion, but in this case it's probably better to provide a redirect for the common misspelling, so I did that. Thanks for adding some artist bios, by the way. These are great! --Dystopos 15:50, 11 June 2009 (PDT)

Richard B. Marchase

Ray Reach

  • Sorry I undid your edit. I thought the "disappearing text" was from a software glitch, as I fouond no explanation as to why it was removed. My bad. One question: Why did you remove the "Mr. President" mention from the discography? I consider that project to be one of my greatest career acheivements. ~~ User:Rreach 8:58, 22 September, 2009

Key

Awww, you shouldn't have. --Wheresdib 13:55, 22 March 2010 (PDT)

Sterling Foster

The dates you put in Sterling Foster's succession box are at odds with the ones in the list of pastors on the South Highland Presbyterian Church page. But the 1909 date is also at odds with Virginia Durr's autobiography, which indicated he was dismissed in 1910 or 1911, based on her mentioning her 7th birthday. (Although given she was so young at the time and was recounting it many decades later, I willing to take her accuracy with a grain of salt.) --Lkseitz 09:23, 9 April 2010 (PDT)

Templates

  • It might be a good idea to start a Bhamwiki:Templates page to document what's available. --Dystopos 09:52, 27 April 2010 (PDT)
    • Agreed. I'll see if I can get to it soon. --Lkseitz 11:51, 27 April 2010 (PDT)
    • Behold, Bhamwiki:Templates. Kinda lengthy, but there you go. BTW, Bhamwiki:Licensing templates needs to be updated and I don't have permissions to do it. --Lkseitz 15:19, 4 May 2010 (PDT)
      • Awesome. I took the lazy way out and unprotected it. (I still have two years of homicide prosecutions to review, and then the Birmingham Americans...) --Dystopos 15:23, 4 May 2010 (PDT)
        • Okay, Bhamwiki:Licensing templates is updated, Bhamwiki:Media templates has been written, and the media templates categorized into their own category. It looks like ads, logos, and programs still need media templates, as those three types of things still have individual fair use templates. I suspect it was something you were going to do, took a break from, and then forgot about. I might work on it in the future, but not today. If you want to, I think the following templates can be deleted, but you might want to double-check that we're not using them: Template:Fair use-Book,Template:Fair use-CD, and Template:Fair use-Program. --Lkseitz 12:12, 5 May 2010 (PDT)
          • I'm intimidated by the number of edits needed to replace the logo template. Any ideas? --Dystopos 14:09, 5 May 2010 (PDT)
            • I hadn't looked at the numbers. Over 600, eh? Well, maybe logos can just continue to be a special case, then. And in case you were wondering why I said the program fair use template could be deleted, I meant to say Template:Fair use-Postcard. (And it's redirect, Template:Fair use-Post card.) Sorry, I trimmed the wrong thing after I copied & pasted. --Lkseitz 07:32, 6 May 2010 (PDT)

Please delete

The following are in need of deletion: Category:Templates, Category:Year templates, Template:End. Thanks. --Lkseitz 15:23, 4 May 2010 (PDT)

  • Done. Thanks for thinking that stuff through. --Dystopos 15:24, 4 May 2010 (PDT)
