Warren St John
Warren St. John (born October 17, 1969 in Birmingham) is a reporter for The New York Times and has written for The New Yorker, Slate, the New York Observer, and Wired.
St John is the author of the National Bestseller Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer: A Road Trip into the Heart of Fan Mania. The book explores the phenomenon of sports fandom and chronicles the 1999 season St John spent following Alabama football fans, particularly those who faithfully drove to games in RVs. In 2009, Half Shell Entertainment, a division of HBO, optioned to develop the book into a screenplay.
St John's 2007 article for the New York Times about a group of refugee youth soccer players living near Atlanta, called "The Fugees: Adjusting to America; Outcasts United," was optioned for a motion picture by Universal Studios. Outcasts United, a book based on the article, was released on April 21, 2009 by Spiegel & Grau, a division of Random House.
St John attended The Altamont School, the alma mater of his cousin Kate Jackson. He lives in New York, where he went to college at Columbia University. St. John met Bear Bryant as a child on October 17, 1982. He also attended Bryant's funeral.
