Whitaker Clinic

The Whitaker Clinic is a medical practice affiliated with UAB Health System located in the Whitaker Building, named for neurologist John Whitaker, on the southeast corner of 22nd Street South and 6th Avenue South near the Kirklin Clinic. It opened in August 2017 and includes a primary care practice along with specialty practices in dermatology, podiatry and rheumatology.

Space for the clinic was opened when the UAB Health System moved about 650 business, billing and coding operations employees to a former bank operations center at 720 39th Street North in North Avondale. The $10.8 million renovation involved the second and third floors and included a pedestrian connector bridge to the adjacent Kirklin Clinic Parking Deck. Doster Construction Company was the general contractor and the architect was Gresham, Smith & Partners.
