Zachary Banks

Zachary A. Banks (born c. 1984 in Birmingham) is a vocalist and choir director at Ramsay High School.

Banks attended Ramsay, and came to think of then choir director Myrna Ria Ross as a "second mother" after his own mother died during his sophomore year. He graduated in 2002.

Banks earned his bachelor of arts in voice and bachelor of education in music education at the University of Montevallo in 2008 and 2012. He performed in Montevallo's concert choir and chamber choir, as well as the University Chorus, and was a founding member of the Opus 8 chamber ensemble and co-directed the Magic City Choral Society. He began his career as a student assistant to Gary Packwood there. After graduating he served as a teacher and aide at Pelham High School, while also working as a gym attendant, retail sales clerk and bank teller.

Banks began teaching full-time as director of choral activities at Montevallo High School and Montevallo Middle School. While there has also led the Montevallo Community Chorale and worked as an instructor through the University's Community School of Music. In 2018 he was hired to succeed Ben Cook as choir director for McAdory Middle School. He returned to Ramsay in 2019.

Banks performs with the Temple Emanu-El, Southside Baptist Church and Cathedral Church of the Advent choirs, and was president of the performing group Highland Consort from 2015 to 2021. He also works as a deejay for Procat Audio Video Productions and as a public address announcer for the Montevallo Falcons sports information office.
