The '''Citizens Committee for Merger''' was a civic group formed by several area business leaders to promote [[1959 Homewood Mountain Brook annexation referendum|votes]] in [[Homewood]] and [[Mountain Brook]] for [[Merger proposals|merging]] into the [[City of Birmingham]] in [[1959]].

The committee was chaired by developer [[Robert Jemison Jr]]. A full-page advertisement<!--http://bplonline.cdmhost.com/cdm/ref/collection/p16044coll1/id/2424--> that it ran in local papers was co-signed by [[Claude Lawson]] of [[U.S. Pipe]], [[Elbert Jemison]] of [[Jemison Realty]], [[William Engel]] of [[Engel Realty Co.]], [[Clarence Hanson Jr]] of ''[[The Birmingham News]]'', [[Robert Montgomery]] of [[Montgomery Real Estate Co.]], [[Edward Norton]] of [[Coosa River Newsprint Co.]], and [[Sidney Smyer]] of the [[Birmingham Realty Company]].
