Sloss Iron & Steel Company
From Bhamwiki
Sloss Iron & Steel Company is a descendant of the Sloss Furnace Company which was founded by Colonel James Withers Sloss. The name was changed to Sloss Iron & Steel Company in 1885 when Colonel Sloss retired and sold the company to a group of Alabama and Virginia investors. It's offices were located at 218 21st Street North in the 1880s.
The company was reorganized again in 1902 as Sloss-Sheffield Steel & Iron Company when it acquired the assets of Sheffield Iron Company of Sheffield, Alabama, which included blast furnaces at Sheffield and Florence, ore fields in Franklin County and coal properties in Walker County.
