In 1811, Paraguay and Venezuela declared independence from Spain. Italian scientist Amedeo Avogadro published his memoire about the molecular content of gases. American troops led by William Henry Harrison defeated the Native American chief Tecumseh at the Battle of Tippecanoe. The first of the major New Madrid earthquakes took place.
