1943 Alabama State Fair

The 1943 Alabama State Fair was a State Fair held in October 419, 1943 at the Alabama State Fairgrounds. In addition to livestock and educational exhibits, the fair featured an exhibit of "War Trophies" sponsored by the U.S. Treasury Department with a German tank. a Nazi "Volkswaggen" [sic], a Japanese Zero fighter plane and various artillery pieces captured during World War II. Also appearing was the "On to Victory" stage show with a cast of 200 produced by Barnes-Carruthers, and a "Grand Ol' Opry" revue presented by Nashville's WSM-AM with Ernest Tubb, George D. Hay, the Arkansas Cotton Pickers and the Three Smith Sisters. Rubin & Cherry Exposition Shows produced midway entertainments including animal acts at the Grandstand and dancing girls in a "French Casino" attraction.
