The 2001 Rickwood Classic was the 6th in the annual series of "throwback" games played by the Birmingham Barons in vintage-style uniforms at Birmingham's historic Rickwood Field. The Barons lost 12-3 against the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx on June 7. Birmingham pitcher Geronimo Mendoza gave up six runs in the first inning and finished the afternoon by giving up 13 hits and 11 runs.

The Barons honored their Southern Association pennant winning team of 1912. West Tennessee wore the uniforms honoring the 1941 Jackson Generals. The Jackson, Mississippi, team was chosen as a result of the Jaxx being the first professional baseball team to call Jackson, Tennessee home. The game was presented by State Farm Insurance. General admission tickets were $8.

The announced crowd for the Thursday mid-day game was 6,856.
