Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin's 2018 State of the Community address was delivered on Monday January 15, 2018, seven weeks into his 1st year in office. Woodfin addressed the public from Parker High School's auditorium at 5:00 PM. He also addressed the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham at the Harbert Center on January 23.

In the address, Woodfin expressed gratitude for his opportunity to serve as mayor, expressing his love for the city. He stated that in his view, the "state of the community is an open question, that only you and I can answer together." After acknowledging the many positive changes that have taken place in the past few years, he identified poverty as the biggest challenge to making significant progress. He elaborated that developmental, educational, and workforce training opportunities will be an important priority for addressing poverty.

When addressing the Kiwanis Club, Woodfin urged members of the business community to support workforce training for city residents as a key strategy for reducing poverty. He also talked about investing in public services and public works to make all of Birmingham neighborhoods "choice neighborhoods" in terms of providing infrastructure for a good quality of life. He also touched on the need to pick up the 2007 "Plan to End Chronic Homelessnes" which had been adopted but not well implemented.
