Abalabip! was a musical showcase organized by The Oxford American magazine to coincide with its "The Year of Alabama Music" special issue, itself a tie-in to the Alabama Tourism Department's "Year of Alabama Music" publicity campaign. Four dates were planned during the year at venues around the state.
The inaugural event was held on February 5, 2011 at the Alabama Theatre. It included sets from The Secret Sisters, Arthur Doyle, The Sex Clark Five, and Ralph "Soul" Jackson, joined by Mary Gresham. Around 400 people showed up for the event.
The Tuscaloosa event, held at the Bama Theater on September 10, featured Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, Cleve Eaton & the Alabama All Stars, The Bear, and G-SIDE.
