Alacare Home Health & Hospice was a private company that operated home health and hospice facilities statewide. Its headquarters offices were at 2400 John Hawkins Parkway in Hoover.

Alabama Home Health Care Inc. was founded by Charles and Mary Beard in December 1970 as a non-profit. Charles' brother, Robert Beard served as president.

Charles assumed the presidency when Robert left the company in 1976, but soon passed it to his son, John, who divested from his own company, the Professional Services Leasing Corporation that same year. Another son, Charles III founded Health Services Medical Supply Inc. in 1975, which contracted with Alacare and others to supply medical equipment. In 1981 the United States Department of Health and Human Services conducted an audit of Alacare and ruled that some of its payments to related companies from previous years should not have been reimbursed by Medicare. Judge U. W. Clemon granted the company an injunction, enjoining the government to make the reimbursements. Alacare was incorporated as a for-profit company in 1982. The Beard family also established the Hospice & Home Health Fund of Alabama to help support low-income patients in need of home health and hospice services.

John Beard remained president of Alacare while his sister, Susan Brouillette became CEO. The company reported revenues of $117 million in 2018.

In April 2019 it was announced that Alacare would be acquired by Encompass Health.
