Allen Barra

Allen Barra (born in Birmingham) is a sports columnist for the Wall Street Journal and Salon.com. He regularly appears on Major League Baseball Radio.

Barra graduated from Mountain Brook High School and from UAB.

Barra’s work has appeared in various alternative publications, including The Paperman, Birmingham After Dark, The Birmingham Reporter, the Southsider, Boz Art, Creative Loafing, Blue Note, Southern Style, Fun & Stuff, the Birmingham Weekly and Weld. He worked for a time as an editor for American Heritage.

Barra is the author of several books, including Rickwood Field: A Century in America’s Oldest Ballpark, The Last Coach, and Yogi Berra: Eternal Yankee.

He is a resident of South Orange, New Jersey. He and his wife, Jonelle, have one child.
