Axel Bolvig

Axel Bolvig Jr (born March 5, 1928 in Evergreen, Conecuh County; died August 13, 2014) was an employee and executive of the Alabama Byproducts Corporation for 33 years and Mountain Brook City Manager for 6 years.

Bolvig graduated from Phillips High School in 1945 and from the Virginia Military Institute, where he was a varsity swimmer, in 1949. He received a commission as an officer of the U.S. Air Force, which was deferred while he completed a master's in business administration from Harvard Business School in 1952. He served his military commission from 1953 to 1955 at the Arnold Engineering Development Center in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

Bolvig started at ABC Coke as a sales associate and was eventually promoted to vice president of sales and director before retiring in 1985. He served on several working committees for the American Coke and Coal Chemicals Institute, and was its president for 2 terms. He was also a member of the American Foundrymen's Society and the The Ductile Iron Society. He also served on the executive reserve for the U.S. Department of the Interior's Emergency Solid Fuels Administration.

Bolvig was also involved in Republican Party politics as a precinct captain, as chair of the Jefferson County Committee to Elect President Richard M. Nixon, and on various executive committees. He was appointed City Manager for Mountain Brook in 1986 and resigned in 1992.

Bolvig was a life-long member, deacon and Sunday School superintendent at Independent Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Rotary Club of Birmingham, Country club of Birmingham, Redstone Club, and The Club.

Bolvig died in 2014 and his ashes were interred at the columbarium at Independent Presbyterian Church.
