The Painted Lady is a 22-room, 40,000 square-foot boutique hotel under development by Addicus Private Equity of Oxford, Mississippi in the Raden building and adjoining structures on the northeast corner of Block 137, southwest of the intersection of 22nd Street and 2nd Avenue South.

The building, which is a contributing structure to Birmingham's Automotive Historic District on the National Register of Historic Place had housed automotive functions until 2019. An initial redevelopment project, called The Battery II or The Battery, Phase II, was undertaken by Ward Neely as an extension of his earlier mixed-use redevelopment project, The Battery, across the street.

Fifth Dimension Architecture & Interiors designed the renovations which were to have included restaurants, bars or retail on the ground floor and an "automated hotel" on the upper floors. Work was started by Neely Construction on a $10 million budget in 2020, but was stalled during the COVID pandemic. An investment from Addicus Private Equity, which planned to relocate its Birmingham offices from the Munger Building at Five Points South, allowed development to resume in 2022.

In May 2023 Addicus announced that the entire building would be redeveloped with the name "The Painted Lady", to be managed by Lark Hotels of Amesbury, Massachusetts. The name is a reference to Lou Wooster, whom the owners claim once operated a business in the Raden Building.
