Birmingham Children's Theatre

The Birmingham Children's Theatre (BCT) is a non-profit theater company which produces several shows for young audiences each year. Founded in 1947, it is one of the oldest and largest such groups in the United States. The group is based at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex and uses the 9,000-seat BJCC Theatre as well as two smaller performance spaces. The company also tours Alabama and neighboring states with several productions each season, reaching tens of thousands students.

In addition to its productions, Birmingham Children's Theatre conducts classes and camps in the dramatic arts. The organization's "Voices of History" project has produced several 10-minute educational videos featuring actors speaking from the perspective of prominent historical figures, such as Sally Ride and Fred Shuttlesworth. The BCT costume shop also provides costumes for rent to other performing groups.

The organization is headed by executive artistic director Ashley Woods. She is assisted by associate artistic director Alex Ungerman, education director Jessie Kisor, and sales and office manager Stephen Pierce. The board of directors is led by Chris Cain.
