Birmingham Fire Station No. 10/22.

Birmingham Fire Station No. 10/22 is a fire station for the Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service located at 4439 5th Avenue South in Forest Park-South Avondale. The station houses two suppression units, 2 ALS transport unit, the Fire Investigations Bureau, a Heavy Rescue unit.

The combined station was suggested in a 2003 study by Firescope, Inc. and replaced Birmingham Fire Station No. 22 on Clairmont Avenue and Birmingham Fire Station No. 10 on 2nd Avenue South in downtown Avondale, both of which were constructed in the 1920s and are too small for modern fire equipment.

A $2.5 million bid from Builder-Contractor Inc. was approved by the Birmingham City Council in January 2008.

Trivia

When Station 10/22 was put in service, it housed Engine 10 and Engine 22, as well as Heavy Rescue 10. Due to the increased need for ALS transport units, and a low number of responses for the apparatus, Engine 10 was disbanded and the crew was split between new ALS transport units. Due to a need for additional truck companies in the city, particularly in Avondale area, Engine 22 became Quint 22 and the crew was placed on a 75 ft Quint. Heavy Rescue 10 was moved to Birmingham Fire Station No. 2 and became Heavy Rescue 2 for a short time.
