Centennial Place is a non-profit incubator with a focus on homeownership which was developed by SouthTrust Bank, in part to house its Community Development Group. The center operates out of an 11,000-square foot former bank branch at 601 19th Street North, which had been empty since 1998. After a $500,000+ renovation, the center opened on December 19, 2002 with New Hope Community Development Federal Credit Union, Hands On Birmingham, Neighborhood Housing Services of Birmingham and a local office of the United Negro College Fund as participants.
