Cindy Self Martin is the founder and publisher of Bham Now and The Bama Buzz, and formerly the first president of Al.com and the Alabama Media Group.

Martin is the daughter of Nat and Louise Self of Walker County. She grew up in Bessemer and attended Jess Lanier High School. She earned a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering at the University of Alabama in 1984 and completed a master's in business administration in 1986.

After graduating she worked in leadership development for AT&T in Orlando, Florida and married Cliff Martin. She was transferred to Bedminster, New Jersey to work on the launch of AT&T Worldnet dial-up internet service. In 1995 she left to become vice president of sales and marketing for the Magellen internet search engine. When it was purchased by Excite a year later she was recruited by Advance Media in 1996 to lead the digital media group that launched "Alabama Live" (now Al.com).

She was promoted to head of Alabama Media Group, the combined publisher of The Birmingham News, The Huntsville Times and The Mobile Press-Register, in 2012. She left in 2013.

In 2016 Martin launched Bham Now. That project expanded in 2021 and 2022 with the launches of The Bama Buzz and Hville Blast.

Martin has served on the boards of Magic City Art Connection, Junior Achievement of Alabama, Black Warrior Riverkeeper and Forever Wild, as well as on the human rights committee for the Rotary Club of Birmingham.
