City Meats in 2006

City Meats & Vegetables was a butcher shop and convenience store located in the former Mills Restaurant at 5535 1st Avenue North in Woodlawn. It was owned by Randy Newell and opened in 1994.

In 2011 City Meats began selling fresh produce from A & P Farms in Etowah County as part of a pilot project administered by Main Street Birmingham to promote produce sales in neighborhood markets in areas underserved by large grocery chains.

In 2017 Newell worked with REV Birmingham, the Woodlawn Neighborhood Association, art students from Woodlawn High School and artist Andy Jordan to commission a painted mural of a group of people joining hands around a table laden with food, with a city skyline in the background.

After the store closed, the mural was painted over with the message "It's Dope to Have You in Woodlawn".
