Cobbs, Allen, and Hall (formerly the John G. Smith Company) is Alabama's largest private insurance risk management firm and brokerage. The insurance and mortgage broker was founded by John G. Smith in 1887. The company changed its name to that of its three principles in the 1920s.

In 1975 the mortgage origination and servicing operations were spun off as the Mortgage Corporation of the South with headquarters at 2119 6th Avenue North in Birmingham. That company also had offices in Anniston, Cullman, Dothan, Huntsville, Mobile, and Montgomery, as well as Atlanta, Georgia; Metairie, Louisiana; Pascagoula, Mississippi and Pensacola, Florida.

A group of investors headed by Grantland Rice III purchased Cobbs, Allen, and Hall in April 1993. Bruce Denson was hired as CEO and helped cultivate significant annual growth. The firm was admitted into the Assurex network in 2000. It is now an employee-owned company with more than 40 shareholders among its 150 professionals. The firm's headquarters office is located at 115 Office Park Drive and it maintains branch offices in Gadsden, Montgomery and Mobile and in Atlanta, Georgia and Shreveport, Louisiana.

There is a Mortgage Corporation of the South based in Wetumpka, Alabama.
