Colin Peek

Colin Davis Peek (born June 4, 1986 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida) is a former tight end for the 2009 Alabama Crimson Tide football team.

Peek's father, Gene, was a two-year letterman for the Florida Gators football team and was president of the Gators' booster club when Steve Spurrier was hired as head coach. When Peek, a highly-rated prospect, came out of The Bolles School, the Gators were switching to Urban Meyer's triple option offense with few roles for a pro-style tight end. Mike Shula had recruited Peek out of high school with help from Clem Gryska, a Paul W. Bryant Museum staff member and former roommate of Peek's maternal grandfather, Robert "Rip" Collins, who played for the Crimson Tide in the 1940s. Peek signed instead with Georgia Tech.

As a Yellow Jacket, Peek played in nine games as a true freshman, but did not catch a pass. He was redshirted for his second year and returned to the active squad in 2007. He started 11 games as a sophomore player and ranked third on the team with 25 receptions and one touchdown. When Tech switched to the same offense under Paul Johnson, Peek transferred to Nick Saban's Alabama team and was required to sit out for the fall semester.

As a senior on the 2009 team, Peek was the Tide's fourth leading receiver with 26 receptions for 313 yards and three touchdowns and a 2-point conversion. He was injured for the games against Tennessee, LSU and Mississippi State. His most productive games included 6 receptions and a touchdown against Kentucky and 3-reception, 1-touchdown games against Auburn and Florida to end the season. His touchdown in the Florida game was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Peek played, but did not catch any passes in the win against Texas for the BCS National Championship.

Peek's appearance in a Tide uniform at the Rose Bowl followed 63 years after his grandfather played there in the Tide's 34-14 victory over Southern California to finish the 1945 season undefeated.

Peek was not selected in the 2010 NFL Draft and subsequently signed a free agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons, but was cut from the squad during the preseason.
