Cory Schlesinger

Cory Schlesinger (born c. 1986 in Hillsville, Virginia) is director of strength and development for the UAB Blazers men's basketball and men's golf teams.

Schlesinger played point guard at Carroll County High School and then at Berea College in Berea, Kentucky while earning his bachelor of arts in physical education. He worked was an intern at Wake Forest for one year, and then at the University of North Carolina Tar Heels for two years, both while Jerod Haase was on Roy Williams' staff there.

Schlesinger went on to complete a master's in education with a concentration in exercise science at Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina while working as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Camels basketball team. He has earned certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and United States Weightlifting.

In 2011 Schlesinger was hired as director of strength and conditioning for Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, California. There he was responsible for training and nutrition for the men's and women's Broncos basketball teams. He also worked as a nutritionist for the San Jose Earthquakes' Major League Soccer team and worked at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

In July 2013, following the departure of Lou DeNeen, Haase invited him to join his staff at UAB. During the Blazers' upset victory over the Iowa State Hawkeyes in the 2015 NCAA tournament round of 64 in Louisville, Kentucky, Schlesinger's enthusiasm and full beard, which he began growing during the team's preseason trip to Spain, earned him notice from the bench.
