Cosby Lake Park
Cosby Lake Park or the Old Camp Cosby Lake Greenway is a 56-acre public park operated by the City of Clay on the north shore of Lake Cosby (originally Lake Oliver) at 6255–6275 Old Springville Road. The lake was originally created in 1907 by W. G. Oliver as a feature of his summer residence. In 1922 it was acquired by Birmingham YMCA president W. T. Cosby and made the centerpiece of Camp Cosby, which he named for his son, a casualty of World War I.
Camp Cosby moved to Lake Logan Martin in 1972. Much of the property was subdivided by private developers. The present park was purchased in 2008 with funds from the City of Clay and Freshwater Land Trust. It is operated by Clay for picnicking, fishing, hiking, non-motorized boating and passive recreation. The park's trails are part of the Turkey Creek Corridor in the Red Rock Ridge & Valley Trail System.
