Dan Sartain's Barber Shop was a one-chair 12 x 22-foot barber shop at 5530 1st Avenue North in downtown Woodlawn.
Sartain leased the former Hippodrome Barber Shop after the death of long-time proprietor Vincent Oliver in 2018. He recruited long-time barber Bud Genry as the license-holder and apprenticed under him until earning his own license from the Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering. After Genry retired, he continued to operate under his own name through the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic until his death in March 2021.
Sartain equipped the shop with a record player and sometimes announced special days featuring just the music of Howlin' Wolf or Ricky Nelson would be played all day.
