Darryl Ray

Darryl Ray (born in Wynnville) is the former Mayor of Oneonta.

Ray grew up on Blount County, moving from Wynnville to Oneonta in 1954. He went to work for Liberty National Life Insurance in 1969, moving from agent to sales manager to district manager and finally consultant before retiring in 2008. He served as Oneonta Police Commissioner and on the Oneonta City Council for four years before being elected mayor in 2008 when incumbent Danny Hicks decided not to run again.

Ray and his wife, Martha, have two boys and one girl. Ray is a long-time member of Fairview Missionary Baptist Church and serves as a Deacon there.
