Donald W. Green

Donald Wayne Green (born c. 1941; died April 14, 2011 in Daphne, Baldwin County) was a baseball coach at Banks High School and a coach and athletic director for Jefferson State Junior College.

Green grew up in Birmingham and graduated from Jones Valley High School, lettering in baseball, football and basketball. He attended Florida State University and earned his bachelor of science at Samford University while also lettering for the Samford Bulldogs football team. He went on to complete graduate work at the University of Alabama before becoming an educator and coach.

Green began his career at Banks High School, then moved to Jeff State where he spent 28 years and compiled a coaching record of 622-428 (0.592). His Pioneers teams won 10 division championships and 2 regional championships in the National Junior College Athletic Association. He was named athletic director in 1991 and served through 1996.

Green was named "coach of the year" in the northern division 9 times and for Region 22 twice. He also served as president of the NJCAA's baseball committee. He was inducted into the Alabama Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Alabama Community College Conference Hall of Fame in 2004.

Green died in 2011. He was survived by his wife, Mary; two sons, Derek and Chad; and three grandchildren.
