Elyton Land Company Band

The Elyton Land Company Band is reported to have been the first performing ensemble formed in Birmingham. It was organized in 1883 by Fred Gambs, utilizing the talents of prominent local citizens under the sponsorship of the Elyton Land Company, which provided instruments and a rehearsal hall. Members included Henry Jones, W. A. Terry, John Caldwell and S. E. Thompson.
