"A typical Birmingham messenger", photographed October 1914 by Lewis Wickes Hine. From the National Child Labor Committee collection, Library of Congress, Prints and Photographs Division. (link). In donated its collections to the Library of Congress, the NCLC stipulated that, "There will be no restrictions of any kind on your use of the Hine photographic material." (link)

The messenger is identified by his hatband and shoulder patches as being employed by Western Union / ADT (American District Telegraph Co.)

In the background is the Title Building at 2028 3rd Avenue North.
