Logo for the Jefferson County Department of Health.

According to the department's website, the logo's shield shape with "three point symmetry" represents the three core functions of public health officials, reflected in words at the top of the shield: "Prevent, Promote, Protect." An image of the asklēpión (the snake entwined around a rod associated with Asklēpiós, the Greek god of medicine) appears in a blue and green illustration of clean air, land and water, symbolizing the importance of the environment on public health. A golden sunburst symbolizes life energy and intellectual insight. The red color of the lettering on the shield represents courage, life blood, and the bonds between people. (link)
