The Five Points West community is one of 23 communities in Birmingham's Community Participation Program. It is situated to the west of Smithfield, north of West End, and southeast of Ensley, and mostly in District 8. It is bounded on the north by I-20/59, on the east by Princeton Parkway and Arkadelphia Road, on the south by 3rd Avenue West and Village Creek, and on the west by the city of Fairfield.

The community is made of six neighborhoods: Belview Heights, Bush Hills, Central Park, Ensley Highlands, Fairview and Green Acres. The Five Points West community has roughly 23,500 residents, representing just over 11% of Birmingham's population.

Notable landmarks in Five Points West include the campus of Birmingham-Southern College, Five Points West Shopping City, the Birmingham CrossPlex and CrossPlex Village at the former Alabama State Fairgrounds, and Oakland Cemetery.
