Fredrick Hopson McCrory (born August 2, 1923 in Greensboro; died April 20, 2015 in Birmingham)

McCrory was a combat veteran of the U.S. Marines 3rd Defense Battalion in the Pacific during World War II, participating in infantry battles in Peleliu, Bougainville and Guadalcanal.

After his discharge in November 1946, McCrory played professional baseball for a while. He enrolled at the University of Alabama and also attended the Harvard University Graduate School of Business. He began his business career with the Alabama Power Company. He later became a general credit manager for O'Neal Steel.

McCrory served on the Jefferson County Judicial Commission, the Vestavia Hills Board of Education, and the Vestavia Hills City Council. He also served the board of directors of Cooper Green Hospital, and in the Jefferson County Sheriff's Reserves.

McCrory was a charter member of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church. He and his wife, Sybil had two children: Debbie and Mike. McCrory died in 2015 and was survived by his children, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
