Greg's Cookies
Greg's Cookies was a cookie company founded in 1937 by Grady and Margaret Sharp with its bakery and offices at 4500 1st Avenue North in Avondale. For most of its life the company sold individual cookies out of glass jars on store counters for a penny each. In 1955 the company offered a pair of "Davy Crockett Blue Jeans" for $1.00 by mail order with a box top or wrapper from a package of Greg's Cookies.
Bud Cason, the Sharps' nephew, bought the company in 1970. He expanded the plant from 32,000 to 100,000 square feet and introduced new packaging. He sold Greg's Cookies to Wyndham Foods in 1986 and founded Bud's Best Cookies five years later.
The former Greg's Cookies bakery changed hands several times. It was at one time operated by the Bake-Line Group of Oakbrook, Illinois, which filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2004. The former plant is now used by the Robert F. Henry Tile Company.
