The Hotel Cynthia was a proposed 10-story, 278-room, $300,000 full-service hotel which was to be located on the present site of the Frank Nelson Building, on the northeast corner of 20th Street and 2nd Avenue North.

The project was announced by White Swan Laundry founder and former Birmingham Police chief Thomas McDonald, who had brought in other local investors. The steel, stone and brick hotel was to be operated by the former manager of the Cadillac Hotel in Detroit, Michigan.
