Jacquelyn Dukes

Jacquelyn Bates Dukes (born December 4, 1938; died November 25, 2004) was a long-time educator and guidance counselor.

Jacquelyn was the daughter of Isaac Samuel and Lena Williams Bates. She graduated from Ullman High School when she was 16 and earned her bachelor's degree in chemistry and mathematics at Miles College.

She began her teaching career in Carrollton, Pickens County. She later taught at Wilkerson Elementary School, Midfield High School, Scott Elementary School, Glenn High School, Woodlawn High School, and Miles College.

She married Frank Dukes in 1967. In 1978 she completed a master's in guidance and counseling at UAB. In 1991 she supported her daughter's calling to found the Maranathan Family Learning Center & Academy which provides educational opportunities for critically at-risk youth.

Dukes died in 2004 and is buried at Zion Memorial Gardens.
