Jameis Winston (born January 6, 1994 in Hueytown) is a quarterback and outfielder and relief pitcher for the Florida State Seminoles football and baseball teams. As a redshirt freshman starting quarterback he compiled more than 3,800 yards passing and scored 42 touchdowns, earning a Heisman Trophy and several other national awards and taking his team to an undefeated 13-0 season and a spot in the BCS National Championship game against the Auburn Tigers.

Winston, the son of Antonor and Loretta Winston of Hueytown, played football and baseball for the Hueytown High School Golden Gophers. In his senior season he helped his team reach the AHSAA semifinals by hitting .424 with 7 home runs and 36 runs batted in, and also pitching an 8-3 record with 2 saves, a 1.92 ERA and 92 strikeouts. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 15th round of the 2012 Major League draft, but decided to attend Florida State on a football scholarship.

As a football player under coach Matt Scott, WInston had earned recognition as the top quarterback prospect in the nation. He passed for 2,424 yards and ran for another 1,065 with a total of 43 touchdowns on his way to the AHSAA Class 5-A semifinals. At Florida State he was redshirted behind starter E. J. Manuel his first season, but did start for the Seminoles baseball team, hitting .235 and compiling a 3.00 ERA with 21 strikeouts as a pitcher.

In his football debut in 2013, Winston immediately set the pace for a record-setting season. He completed 237 of 349 pass attempts for 38 touchdowns and only 10 interceptions, and also rushed for 193 yards on 77 attempts with four more scores. He was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's, the Associated Press and The Sporting News player of the year and a consensus All-American. He also won the Walter Camp Award and the Davey O'Brien Award, and became the youngest player ever to win the Heisman Trophy.

Winston's dream season was marred by an investigation into a reported sexual assault. The Florida District Attorney's office reviewed the case and determined that no criminal charges would be filed.

On his 20th birthday, Winston led a 7-play 80-yard touchdown drive in the last minutes of the BCS National Championship in Pasadena, California to pull ahead of the Auburn Tigers and win the game by a score of 34-31.

Winston has been accused twice of shoplifting in the Tallahassee area, once for using the soft drink dispenser without paying at a Burger King in July 2013, and once for taking crab legs from a Publix supermarket in April 2014. He was ordered to perform 20 hours of community service for the second incident.

In September 2014 Winston climbed on top of a dining table at the FSU Student Union and yelled an obscene phrase. For that incident he was suspended for the Seminoles' game against the Clemson Tigers.
