James Samuel Potts, Jr (born 1940 in Birmingham) is a mortgage banker and financial advisor, and a candidate in the 2010 Republican primary for Governor of Alabama.

Pots, son of James and Margaret Earl Potts, was born at West End Baptist Hospital. He grew up in Montevallo and attended Montevallo City Schools, graduated in 1959. He joined the U.S. Air Force that December, taking evening classes at East Carolina College and the University of Hawaii during his service. He continued his education at San Jose State College, West Valley College and Redwoods College after his discharge.

Potts has been active in the Alabama Cattleman's Association since 1988, serving as president of the Bibb County chapter. He has worked in financial systems design, as a treasurer and tax collector, as controller of a savings & loan, partner in a mortgage company, and financial advisor for Drexel Burnham Lambert.

As a candidate for Governor, Potts has campaigned in favor of reducing the size of government, controlling illegal immigration and defending the 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution.
