Janine Langston

Janine Langston (born c. 1960 in Pleasant Grove) is the executive director of the Birmingham Public Library system.

Langston graduated from Berney Points Baptist High School in 1978. She completed a bachelor's degree in interior furnishings and equipment at Auburn University in 1982 and later completed a master's in library information studies at the University of Alabama.

She began working at the Wylam Library in 1986. In 1992 she was promoted to head of the children's department at the Avondale Library. In 1999 Langston was made the coordinator for BPL's Literacy, Outreach and Youth Services programs. In 2010 she was promoted to regional manager, overseeing the system's western and northern regions.

In October 2020 Langston was tapped by the Library Board to step in as acting director while then-executive director Floyd Council served a one-month unpaid suspension. When Council resigned later that year, she was again placed in the role of interim director. The appointment was made permanent in December 2021.
