Jay Burnham

Jay Burnham (born c. 1965) is the principal timpanist for the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.

Burnham studied with Cleveland Orchestra percussionists Richard Weiner and Paul Yancich at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He came to Birmingham as the ASO's timpanist in 1987, then returned to Cleveland in 1989 to perform with the Cleveland Orchestra and to teach at Cleveland State University.

Burnham returned to the Alabama Symphony Orchestra in 1991. He also teaches percussion at the Alabama School of Fine Arts, Birmingham-Southern College, and the University of Montevallo, where he directs the University of Montevallo Percussion Ensemble.

Burnham also performs occasionally with the rock band Dragonfly.
