Jere King Jr

Jere Clemens King Jr (born September 4, 1910 in Birmingham; died January 10, 1999 in Albany, California) was a Guggenheim Fellow and professor of modern European history at the University of California.

King was the son of Jere King, an attorney and politician who sponsored the "Greater Birmingham" legislation in the Alabama House of Representatives. He attended the University of Virginia and the University of Alabama, where he submitted a master's thesis on the Greater Birmingham movement.

He went on to earn his Ph.D. from the University of California in 1946 and taught there until his retirement. He published two significant books on early 20th century French history and was working on two others at the time of his death. He was survived by his wife, Patricia, and children Carla, Craig, Leah and Blair.
