Jim Newman

Jim Newman (born c. 1965) is an actor, singer, and the current "cowboy" member of the VIllage People.

Newman grew up in Center Point and graduated from Erwin High School and Birmingham-Southern College.

After college, Newman worked on a cruise ship before moving to New York City. As a Broadway actor, Newman has performed small replacement roles in "The Who's Tommy" and "Sunset Boulevard". He played Randy Dexter in "Curtains" (2007) and Mike Farris in "Hands on a Hardbody" (2013). He also toured with productions of "Kiss Me Kate", "Big!" and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat".

Newman lives with his partner and twin boys in Manhattan. He made a return visit to Birmingham in 2011 to star in the Red Mountain Theatre Company's production of "Bubba's Revenge".

In mid-2013 it was announced that Newman had been signed to fill the boots of retiring Village People cowboy Jeff Olson.
