KISS is a hard-rock band noted for theatrical costumes and make-up and effects-filled performances. It was founded in New York City in 1973 by Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss, and has since sold more than 100 million records worldwide. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

KISS has played several concerts in Birmingham.

• "Alive!" tour, October 22, 1975, Boutwell Auditorium
• "Destroyer" tour, July 23, 1976, Rickwood Field. The opening acts were Bob Seger and Kansas. UFO was on the bill, but did not appear.
• "Rock & Roll Over" tour, March 3, 1977, BJCC Coliseum
• "Alive II" tour, December 29, 1977, BJCC Coliseum. The opening act was Piper (featuring Billy Squier)
• "Dynasty" tour, August 16, 1979, BJCC Coliseum. The opening act was New England
• "Creatures of the Night" 10th anniversary tour, January 28, 1983, Boutwell Auditorium. The opening act was Night Ranger. Paul Stanley dedicated that night's performance of "I Still Love You" to Bear Bryant, who had died two days before the show.
• "Lick It Up" tour, January 6, 1984, Boutwell Auditorium. The opening acts were Vandenberg and Riot.
• "Animalize" tour, January 18, 1985, Boutwell Auditorium. The opening act was Krokus.
• "Hot In The Shade" tour, August 7, 1990, Oak Mountain Amphitheatre
• "Alive/Worldwide" tour, September 14, 1996, BJCC Coliseum
• "KISS Farewell" tour, April 14, 2000, BJCC Coliseum
