Pratt Mines

• October: William Snyder was fatally wounded while on board a train by a bullet that was apparently meant for a Black man involved in a fight nearby. James Ramsey was charged with the murder, but acquitted at trial in June 1884 when the defense showed he had left the train before the shooting. (report)
