Jefferson County
- May 27: Henry Goldsweatherly, a miner, was shot and killed at New Castle by a fellow miner, Joe Pate, who was said to be "drunken and infuriated." Goldsweatherly had been attempting to stop Pate from firing recklessly into a crowd of people.
