Jefferson County

St Clair County

• January 18: Billie Dean Hamilton, 38, was found raped and murdered on a roadside near Moody. Ricky Dale Adkins was convicted of capital murder that November and sentenced to death. He won the right to a new trial on appeal in 2013, but died at Holman Correctional Facility in Escambia County on July 1, 2014.
• February 25: Rayford Howard was shot to death during a robbery. Harvey Windsor was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death.

Talladega County

• February 12: Janice Morris, 29, was one of two people shot to death at their home in Talladega in a dispute over custody of two children she and her boyfriend were baby-sitting for a neighbor. The mother, Geraldine George was also shot, but survived with paralysis. Her ex-husband, Larry Donald George, fled the state. He was arrested in Delaware in 1993 after he was spotted by someone who recognized him from Unsolved Mysteries. George was convicted of murder in 1994 and sentenced to death. He remains on death row.
• February 12: Ralph Swain, 24, was shot to death in the same incident.

Walker County

• August 2: Karen Lane was beaten to death and sexually assaulted at her apartment at 105 Elliott Heights in Cordova. Gregory Hunt, who had been in a relationship with Lane, was convicted of intentional murder in June 1990 and sentenced to death. He is incarcerated at the Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore, Escambia County. (report)
