Lynette Peters
Lynette Peters (born c. 1966 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is an accountant with 1 Stop Solutions tax preparation service, and a candidate for Birmingham City Council District 8 in the 2017 and 2021 elections.
Peters grew up in Tylertown, Mississippi and completed her high school diploma through the Salem Attendance Center. She earned a secretarial degree from the USA Training Academy in 1989 and moved to Birmingham in 1991. She enrolled in a program in computer science at Southern Junior College and later earned a certificate in medical billing and coding at Virginia College in 2012. She worked at the 4th Avenue YMCA from 1990 to 1992, for Sardis Baptist Church from 1992 to 1994, for Pitts & Daniels from 1995 to 1997, for Kelly Temporary Services from 1997 to 2004, and for 1-800 Wreckers until 2012 when she took her present position.
Peters has served as president of the Ensley Highlands Neighborhood Association and of the Bush Middle School Parent Teacher Association. She also served as vice-president of the Five Points West Community, and has served for thirty years as a Girl Scout Troop Leader. She is also an active member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church in Bessemer.
Peters has five daughters and five grandchildren. As a candidate for City Council in 2017 she promised to work to expand business development and mentorship while addressing the need to curb gun violence. In 2021 she campaigned on ending the city's stagnancy with regard to education and jobs.
