Marc Steel Company
The Marc Steel Company is a former steel fabricator that operated in Birmingham at 600 6th Avenue South in South Titusville and 210 29th Street North and 2831 2nd Avenue North in the Central City neighborhood.
The company was founded in 1962 by twin brothers Ralph and Alfred Jaffe of the Jaffe-Wohl Iron and Metal Company. They dissolved the firm two years later and it was purchased and reopened in 1965 by Birmingham Barons assistant general manager Bob Scranton.
In 1972 the company operated from the 29th Street address with 6 employees and offered carbon steel bars, rods, plate, sheets, coils, strips, pipe and tube, as well as welded wire and custom products. Scranton sold the company in the 1980s and it continued to do business into the late 1990s.
In 2002 the Titusville plant began operating as Veterans Steel & Supply Co. In 2010 a newly-formed RyJohn Steel LLC applied for incentives from the City of Birmingham to operate from the former Marc Steel plant. In 2019 an LLC affiliated with Navigate Affordable Housing Partners acquired the Marc Steel Company site for $2.15 million.
The 29th Street property has since been demolished. The 2nd Avenue facility was taken over by FleetPride.
